WOMENS RETREATS IN NICARAGUA: SURF, KITE, YOGA
Come for the Wind and waves. Leave harder to impress.
A week of Pacific point breaks, the steady wind that makes Ometepe one of the better-kept kiting secrets in the Americas, and enough yoga to keep your shoulders in the game for all of it. We build these trips for groups of women who already know what they're capable of and want a week that assumes as much.
Everything is handled except the part that's yours to do — paddling into the set, holding the edge, showing up to the mat before coffee. We've been running trips in Nicaragua since 2011. We know which breaks work on which swell, which nights the town is worth staying up for, and how to put a group somewhere beautiful without turning it into a logistics problem you have to solve..
Nicaragua Womens Retreats: WHEN
Year-round. Dry season, green season, the lull between holidays, a random stretch in September — we're running these the whole calendar, and often more than one at a time, on different coasts doing different things. So your dates usually aren't the obstacle you'd expect them to be. Tell us roughly when you're thinking and we'll come back with what's open and what's possible. Contact us for dates and availability.
Come with your crew, or come find one
Book the whole trip for your group and we'll shape it around you — bachelorette that refuses to involve a novelty sash, a run club that wanted a bigger challenge, four friends who've been threatening to do this since college. Or come on your own and land in a small group of women who came for the same reasons you did. Solo travelers ask us about safety, and we give them a straight answer and the logistics to back it up.
Pricing
Retreats start around $2,400 per person, depending on length, group size, and how much you want packed in. That covers lodging, meals, instruction, gear, and in-country transport — the real number, not a teaser you'll watch balloon at checkout. Tell us your dates and your group, and we'll put together something specific..
What we handle
Lodging with actual character, not a bunk in a warehouse. Farm-to-table meals — this is a country that grows extraordinary food, and we don't waste it. Airport pickup, every transfer, boards and kites, local guides who grew up on this coast. Your job is to show up and pay attention to the water. Ours is everything else.
The premise
We plan these for women who travel well and push hard. Surfers who want better waves than the ones back home. First-timers who'd rather learn on a real break than apologize for being new. Riders chasing wind. Groups of friends who booked because one person in the chat refused to let the idea die, and everyone else finally said fine, send the deposit.
What you won't find is a trip built around fixing you. You're not a project. You came to get good at something, eat well, and spend a week around people who don't need the point of it explained. The only thing we ask you to bring is nerve. We've got the rest.
Where you'll be
Honest answer: we don't know yet. We don't hand you a fixed itinerary, because the whole point is building the week (or more) around what your group actually wants to do. Tell us that, and the map fills itself in.
Chasing waves? You'll be on the southern Pacific coast around San Juan del Sur, moving with the swell between beach breaks, points and reefs instead of parked on one beach hoping. Unless you’re on the north coast cause more remote is better. After wind? Then it's Isla de Ometepe — two volcanoes rising straight out of a freshwater lake, with a steady offshore that shows up on schedule for months at a time, which is exactly what you want when you're logging kite hours. Want to trade the coast for a day and kayak a river through the rainforest? Then we'll be in the rainforest, paddling past howler monkeys who woke up angrier than you did.
The country is small and we've been crossing it since 2011. Give us the shortlist of what you're after and we'll string together the places that deliver it — and we'll tell you straight when two things on your list won't fit in the same week..
What you'll actually do
Surf. Real coaching, in small groups, matched to where you actually are — not where a brochure assumes you are. Video review when it helps, honest feedback always, transport to whichever break is firing that morning. Beginners leave standing up and reading the ocean. Intermediates leave having surfed waves they'd have watched from the sand a week earlier.
Kite. Certified instruction on Ometepe's reliable wind, from your first drag downwind to riding upwind on your own. Gear included. If you already ride, we point you at the water and stay out of your way.
Yoga. Built to make the rest of the week possible — mobility for your shoulders and hips, recovery for the days you overdo it, and strength that shows up when you're paddling for the tenth wave. Suitable whether you've never held a plank or you teach. Not the whole point of the trip; the thing that keeps the whole point going.
Everything else you'd rather not find on a menu. The sport is the spine of the week, not the whole body. Because we actually live here, we can build in the things you can't book off a website: seats at a local baseball game, where the crowd takes the national sport more seriously than anyone back home takes anything; a private chef cooking your catch — or a whole spread — at the house instead of a restaurant; a closed-door tour of the artisan towns, where the potters and hammock-weavers actually work, not the stalls out front for cruise-ship crowds. Coffee tasting on a volcano finca. A boat day with nobody else on the water. Horses on the beach at the hour the light goes gold. A night out in town when the group's got the energy — and a hard no when it doesn't.
You don't have to do all of it, and you don't have to do any one thing. Some groups pick a single sport and go deep. Some want a week that never repeats a day. Tell us what your group is actually into — the surfing and the everything-else alike — and we build the week around that.
