Nicaragua has some of the most consistent surf on the planet and almost none of the crowd that usually comes with it. Offshore winds blow clean off Lake Nicaragua the better part of the year, grooming the Pacific swells before they ever reach the sand. The breaks are world-class. The lineups are half-empty. And the coast still feels like it belongs to the people who live on it.
We've been running surf trips here since 2011. We're not a resort with a pool you're expected to stay near — we're the people who know which break is working on today's swell, wind, and tide, and take you there. That's the whole difference, and it's the entire point.
The waves: world-class, still uncrowded
Everyone's heard the story of a perfect wave that got "discovered" and buried under a hundred surfers and a branded surf shop. Nicaragua is the version of that story that hasn't happened yet. The surf around San Juan del Sur and up the Pacific coast runs the full range — forgiving beach breaks where a first-timer finds their feet, punchy points and reef setups that reward you once you have. Maderas, Hermosa, Remanso, Colorado, the reeling walls up toward Popoyo and Panga Drops. Waves that would have a lineup fifty deep somewhere more famous, and here you might share with three people and a couple of pelicans.
The offshore wind is the part nobody warns you about until you've felt it: the lake creates a near-constant offshore that holds the faces clean and open for most of the year. It's why Nicaragua is quietly one of the best places on earth to get meaningfully better at surfing — the conditions cooperate far more often than they have any right to.

The surf culture here hasn't been focus-grouped or franchised. There's no manufactured "surf town" experience staged for a brochure — just fishing pangas, local shapers, families who've watched this coast their whole lives, and a rhythm that runs on tides instead of a marketing calendar. Our guides grew up on these breaks. When you surf with us you're plugged into that, not held at arm's length from it behind a resort gate. It's the thing money can't manufacture and commercialization always ruins, and it's still here — for now.
No walls, no hostages
Here's what most surf resorts don't tell you: a lot of them never actually plan a way for you to leave. You land, you're inside the compound, and the "trip" is whatever happens between the pool and the on-site bar. The waves out front are the waves you get, crowd and all, because getting you anywhere else was never part of the plan.
We built the opposite. We don't keep you hostage to a property — we take you to the best waves for you. That means moving with the conditions instead of parking you on one beach and hoping, matching the break to your level and what the ocean's doing that morning, and treating the entire coast as the trip rather than the fifty yards in front of a lobby. Everything good, none of the bad
Nicaragua gives you the whole upside — genuinely world-class waves, food worth flying for, deep culture, and lodging as comfortable or as pared-back as you want it — without the things that have hollowed out the more "discovered" surf destinations. No shoulder-to-shoulder lineups. No town rebuilt into a strip of identical franchises. No exploitative mega-brand that extracts from the place and gives nothing back. You get the quality without the crowds, and the polish without the plastic. It's what a lot of surf travel used to feel like before it got optimized to death.
How it works
We run surf trips in small groups, matched to where you actually are — not where a brochure assumes you are. Real coaching, video review when it helps, honest feedback always. Transport to whichever break is firing that morning, boards if you need them, lodging chosen to fit the trip, and the farm-to-table food this country does absurdly well. Beginners leave standing up and reading the ocean. Intermediates leave having surfed waves they'd have watched from the sand a week earlier. Advanced surfers leave with a list of breaks they'd never have found alone.
Settle into your frequency
Nicaragua's Pacific Coast is nearly 200 miles long. It has tides as high as nine feet, and each break responds to the South Pacific's swell differently. So, we see very little reason to limit your experience to a single wave. Flexibility is the hallmark of our planning.
